The Situation

Since 2013, the Batoka Gorge Hydroelectric Power Scheme, one of the largest hydroelectric power projects under development in Africa, has been recognised by the Southern African Development Community Region’s high priority project. While this is planned to be built as a Build-Operate-Transfer project, there is evidence of a lack of technical skills across Africa for the managing of PPP projects and programmes.

The Solution

In response to the demand for capacity development programmes, the AfDB commissioned a three phase capacity development programme on PPPs for Hydro-power projects. In association with AME Trade Ltd and Nabarro LLP, Africa PPP Advisory was tasked with assisting in the preparation and delivery of high quality capacity development seminars on PPPs, including preparing agendas and training materials for the Continuing Professional Development Accreditation certified programme.

Our Assistance

We designed, delivered and reviewed the PPP capacity development programme through coordinating an expert team that also developed and delivered the training. We also provided further post-training and advisory support for implementing key improvements that would improve the implementation of the programme.
